Food Tracker

Food Tracker, in the ChatGPT plugin directory

The ChatGPT plugin that counts calories. Just say what you ate.

Connect Food Tracker once from Plugins. Then, in any chat, send a photo of your plate, a voice note or a sentence. ChatGPT works out the calories, macros and micronutrients, shows you, and logs the meal when you say yes.

Works on the free ChatGPT plan, on the phone app and on a computer. Listed in every country ChatGPT supports except the EU, the EEA, Switzerland and the UK.

How to connect the Food Tracker plugin in ChatGPT

Two minutes, once. Nothing to paste and nothing to switch on per chat.

  1. 01

    Open Plugins

In ChatGPT, open Plugins: in the sidebar on a computer, in the menu on a phone.

  2. 02

    Find Food Tracker

Search Food Tracker and tap Connect.

  3. 03

    Approve

A Food Tracker page opens. Create an account or sign in, then tap Approve. It asks for your name, age, height and weight so the first meal already shows what is left.

  4. 04

    Say what you ate

In any chat, send a photo of your plate, a voice note or a sentence. Nothing to paste, nothing to enable per chat.

Prompts to try, and what comes back

It always shows the numbers first and asks one question rather than guessing.

  1. 01

    Log a meal by typing

Name the dishes and roughly how much. It works out portions in grams, shows the numbers and waits for your yes before anything is saved.

  2. 02

    Count calories from a photo

Send a picture of the plate. It picks out each item and asks about the one thing a photo cannot show, instead of guessing.

    You
Photo of the plateThis was dinner
    ChatGPT
I can see two rotis, paneer bhurji (about 150 g) and a cucumber salad. Was the paneer cooked in ghee or oil, and roughly how much?
    You
    A tablespoon of oil
    ChatGPT
    Then it comes to about 612 kcal and 29 g protein: • Roti × 2 (80 g) · 240 kcal • Paneer bhurji, 150 g, 1 tbsp oil · 340 kcal • Cucumber salad, 120 g · 32 kcal Log it to Dinner?
  3. 03

    Send a voice note

On the phone app, hold the microphone and say it. The note is transcribed and handled exactly like a typed line.

    You
Voice note, 0:07Had two idlis with sambar and coconut chutney for breakfast, and a filter coffee with milk and sugar.
    ChatGPT
Four items, about 395 kcal and 12 g protein. Idli × 2 (80 g) 116 kcal, sambar 150 g 110 kcal, coconut chutney 30 g 79 kcal, filter coffee with milk and 1 tsp sugar 90 kcal. Log it to Breakfast?
  4. 04

    Ask what is left

Any time of day. It reads your log and your targets and answers in a line.

    You
How much protein do I have left today?
    ChatGPT
You have had 58 g of your 130 g, so 72 g left, with Dinner still to come. On calories you are at 1,107 of 1,800.
  5. 05

    Correct something

Say what was wrong. It updates the entry rather than logging it twice.

    You
Actually the rice at lunch was half a cup
    ChatGPT
Half a cup is about 80 g, 104 kcal instead of 208. Update the rice entry?
    You
    Yes
    ChatGPTSaved to Food Tracker
Updated in place, no duplicate. Lunch is now 396 kcal and your day is 1,003 kcal so far.
  6. 06

    Look back at the week

Averages against your targets, where the calories went by meal, and the foods that showed up most.

    You
How did I do this week?
    ChatGPT
Six of seven days logged. You averaged 1,760 kcal against a 1,800 target and 118 g protein against 130. Dinner carried 42% of your calories. Fibre was low on four days; the charts are on your Progress page.
  7. 07

    Log your weight

Say the number, or send a photo of the smart-scale printout and it reads weight, body fat and muscle off it and confirms before saving.

    You
I weighed 71.8 kg this morning
    ChatGPTSaved to Food Tracker
Logged 71.8 kg for today, 0.3 kg under Monday. Your 7-day average is 72.1 kg.
  8. 08

    Ask a general question

A question about food is not a meal. Nothing is logged unless you say you ate it.

    You
How many calories are in a banana?
    ChatGPT
About 105 kcal for a medium one, with 27 g of carbs and 3 g of fibre. I haven't logged anything. Tell me if you had one and I will.
  9. 09

    Set targets from a goal

Tell it your goal and pace. It suggests calories and macros from your body details and only applies them once you agree.

    You
I want to lose about half a kilo a week. Suggest targets.
    ChatGPT
From your profile your maintenance is about 2,350 kcal. Half a kilo a week is a 550 kcal deficit, so 1,800 kcal a day with 130 g protein, 190 g carbs, 55 g fat and 28 g fibre. Apply these as your daily targets?

The replies above show how it answers; the figures are estimates for those dishes, not a real account. Your own replies use your targets and your meal times.

What ChatGPT does here, and what it never does

It fills in the ledger. The ledger is yours.

  • Shows before it savesEvery meal is listed with its numbers and logged only after you say yes. Corrections update the entry rather than adding another.
  • Asks instead of guessingPortion size, the oil, what was in a mixed dish: one short question at a time.
  • Never changes your targets on its ownTargets, body details and meal times change only when you agree in the chat or edit them on the website.
  • Stores nothing in ChatGPTYour log lives in Food Tracker. Revoke the connection from the Connect page at any time; the log stays with you.

Questions about the ChatGPT plugin

Is the Food Tracker plugin for ChatGPT free?
Yes. Food Tracker is free, and the plugin works on the free ChatGPT plan as well as Plus and Pro.
Which countries is it available in?
Every country where ChatGPT is available, except the European Union, the European Economic Area, Switzerland and the United Kingdom, where Food Tracker is not offered yet.
Does it work in the ChatGPT phone app?
Yes. Connect it once from Plugins and it is available in every chat, on the phone app and on a computer. Voice notes and photos work best from the phone.
Can ChatGPT count calories from a photo?
Yes. Send a photo of your plate. ChatGPT names each item, estimates the portion in grams, asks about anything it cannot see, such as oil, and logs the meal once you agree.
Does ChatGPT save the meal, or do I have to?
ChatGPT writes it to your Food Tracker log through the plugin, after showing you the items and getting your OK. You never type into the app.
Where do I see my log?
In the chat, by asking, and at app.foodtracker.in: today against your targets, each meal, seventeen micronutrients, weekly progress and your weight trend.
How accurate is it?
The numbers are estimates from food-composition data, the same way a dietitian would estimate a plate. You see them before they are saved and can correct any item afterwards.
Can I use Claude instead of ChatGPT?
Yes. The same log works from Claude as a connector, and from Claude Code or Cursor with an API key. Use whichever assistant you already have.
